Un Absolu
1 Merci, Frère Hutchinson. Bonsoir, Houston. Je considère que c’est vraiment un grand privilège d’être de nouveau ici ce soir à Houston. Cela fait beaucoup d’années depuis que j’ai eu le privilège d’être ici, j’étais assis là ce soir, écoutant chacun de ces prédicateurs. Et l’autre jour, quand j’avais fait des arrangements pour quelque chose d’autre, pour un autre endroit, je savais que ces enfants avaient la mort devant eux, je me suis dit que si quelque chose leur arrivait, je ne me pardonnerais jamais de n’être pas venu ici donner mon avis, et de n’avoir pas fait tout ce que je pouvais pour aider cette mère et ce père et… de ces enfants et de n’avoir pas fait tout ce que je pouvais pour leur sauver la vie.
2 Et Houston a… est une ville mémorable pour moi. Elle renferme beaucoup de grands souvenirs qui me sont chers depuis que j’ai fait ma première visite ici il y a des années, ici au Héraut de la foi : chez frère Kidson, ensuite là à l’auditorium, quand j’étais ici avec le frère Raymond Richey et les ministres de la ville et aussi, bien sûr, avec M. Ayers, M. Kipperman, le soir où l’appareil photo avait confirmé que je ne disais pas de fausseté mais que c’était la vérité. Et quand l’oeil mécanique de l’appareil photo avait capté la vision du… ou plutôt pas la vision, mais la réalité… le Christ que nous prêchons et que nous aimons était avec nous, Il avait promis, en effet, d’être avec nous. Et l’appareil photo a pris Sa photo
3 Autrefois, je disais souvent que cette… je voyais tout le temps cette Lumière, mais parfois les gens étaient un peu sceptiques à ce sujet (en fait, on pouvait croire qu’ils pouvaient l’être). Mais, ce soir-là, l’appareil photo a confirmé la chose. C’était la première fois qu’on En avait pris la photo. Depuis lors, Elle a été photographiée plusieurs fois ; et récemment en Allemagne quand Elle descendait pendant que l’onction était [encore] là et quand Elle repartait. Et ces choses, ce n’est pas pour exalter un être humain, mais c’est pour un… confirmer la Présence de Jésus-Christ parmi Son peuple. Et nous croyons que ce même Seigneur Jésus est ici pour nous aider dans ce cas-ci. Et je crois qu’Il est plus intéressé que nous. J’éprouve de la compassion envers les parents de ces enfants, et je suis très proche de tout homme ou toute femme qui essaie de les délivrer des mâchoires de la mort.
4 Et maintenant, si je comprends bien, ceci n’est pas une série de réunions de réveil, mais c’est juste une – une série de réunions de prière qu’on tient pour les âmes qui se trouvent dans l’ombre de la mort. Etant donc en retard, je ne parlerai pas pendant très longtemps, mais j’aimerais tirer un sujet ou plutôt un contexte d’un sujet dont j’aimerai lire deux passages des Ecritures. Et vous qui avez vos Bibles, ouvrez un moment avec moi l’Epître aux Philippiens, chapitre1, Philippiens chapitre 1, verset 20. …selon ma ferme attente et mon espérance que je n’aurai honte de rien, mais… maintenant comme toujours, Christ sera glorifié dans mon corps avec une pleine assurance, soit… ma vie, soit par ma mort
5 Et ensuite dans Actes chapitre 2, verset 30 aussi. Je peux lire du verset 25 au verset 30. Car David dit de lui : Je voyais constamment le Seigneur devant moi, parce qu’il est à ma droite, afin que je ne sois point ébranlé. Aussi mon coeur est dans la joie, et ma langue dans l’allégresse ; et ma chair reposera avec espérance, Car tu n’abandonneras pas mon âme dans le séjour des morts, et tu ne permettras pas que ton saint voie la corruption. Tu m’as fait connaître le sentier de la vie, tu me rempliras de joie par ta présence Hommes frères, qu’il me soit permis de vous dire librement, au sujet du patriarche David, qu’il est mort, qu’il a été enseveli, et que son sépulcre existe encore aujourd’hui parmi nous. Comme il était prophète, et qu’il savait que Dieu lui avait promis avec serment de faire asseoir un de ses descendants sur son trône, C’est la résurrection du Christ qu’il a prévue et annoncée, en disant qu’il ne serait pas abandonné dans le séjour des morts et que sa chair ne verrait pas la corruption.
6 Inclinons la tête juste un moment pour la prière. Notre Père céleste, nous Te sommes reconnaissants pour la miséricorde. Seigneur, c’est vraiment la raison pour laquelle nous sommes ici ce soir, pour implorer Ta miséricorde. Nous ne demanderions pas ceci si nous n’avions pas la foi pour croire que cela nous serait accordé. Les hommes ont parcouru le pays en avions, et partout les prières montent vers Toi afin que la vie de ceux pour qui nous intercédons instamment ce soir soit épargnée. Seigneur, nous Te prions de donner la force aux pères et mères de ces jeunes gens. Et comme nous comprenons que ce jeune homme T’a donné sa vie et qu’il veut Te servir, comme nous avons entendu l’un des prédicateurs dire qu’il voulait devenir ministre de l’Evangile, je Te prie d’accorder à ce jeune homme cette opportunité. Pardonne-nous nos péchés, purifie nos coeurs de mauvaises pensées, et de tout ce qu’il y a sur notre chemin, qui pourrait empêcher que notre prière pour ces gens soit entendue. En lisant Ta Parole, nous avons compris que les cieux et la terre passeront, mais que Ta Parole ne faillira jamais. Nous Te prions de nous ajouter par le Saint-Esprit le contexte qui prendra–qui sera Ta divine volonté dans le cas présent, comme nous avons entendu l’avocat et beaucoup d’autres le déclarer. Et nous prions afin que nous sachions quoi faire ensuite. Quelle sera notre prochaine démarche? Seigneur, nous sommes ici pour faire cela. Fais-le-nous connaître, Seigneur, par Ta Parole. Car nous le demandons au Nom de Ton Fils, le Seigneur Jésus. Amen.
7 En lisant ces quelques versets, je me rends compte que la situation est sérieuse, étant donné que cela concerne, je pense… Quand j’ai appris et que j’ai reçu le télégramme de cette mère, je me suis dit : «Et si c’était mon fils ou ma fille qui se tenait là dans cette rangée?» Et je… Nous aimerions y mettre tout ce qui est en notre pouvoir. Quelqu’un pourrait donc dire : « Bien, c’était juste une très petite portion de la Parole que vous avez lue, Frère Branham.» Eh bien, cela peut aussi être vrai. Mais, vous voyez, ce n’est pas la – la quantité des mots qui compte, c’est leur signification. C’est – c’est juste… Ce que c’est – c’est la promesse de Dieu. Et j’aimerais tirer de ce soir – de ce texte ce soir ou plutôt de ceci le sujet : «Un Absolu.»
8 Et j’ai choisi ce texte il y a quelque temps pendant que j’étais assis dans ma chambre de motel ; en effet, je pense qu’il nous faut donc quelque chose de positif, un absolu auquel nous pouvons nous accrocher, et dont nous sommes sûrs que c’est la vérité. Dans une heure critique comme celle-ci, nous devons avoir quelque chose dont nous sommes sûrs que c’est vrai, quelque chose auquel nous pouvons nous accrocher, pour savoir si le – comment la situation évolue.
Eh bien, selon Webster, « un absolu en soi, c’est quelque chose d’illimité en puissance, et c’est principalement la référence finale.» Et la référence finale, c’est «l’amen». C’est l’absolu comme ce que cela… C’est la fin. C’est le tout. Eh bien, toute réalisation qui ait jamais été faite au monde est liée à une sorte d’absolu. Vous ne pouvez rien faire à moins qu’il y ait quelque chose auquel vous pouvez vous accrocher.
9 Quand un jeune homme compte se marier à une jeune femme, il doit connaître le caractère de cette jeune femme. Ou la jeune femme doit connaître le caractère du jeune homme, quelque chose auquel elle peut s’accrocher. Sera-t-il un homme juste ? Sera-t-il pour moi le genre de mari qu’il faut ? Cette femme me donnera-t-elle dans la vie ce que je – ce que j’attends d’elle, la fidélité et tout ? Il doit y avoir quelque chose sur lequel ils peuvent baser leurs – leurs voeux, sachant qu’il y a quelque chose qui tiendra. C’est pourquoi nous les amenons à l’église, et à la Parole de Dieu, pour que cet absolu soit établi.
10 Eh bien, ici Paul, comme nous le voyons, avait un absolu auquel il s’est accroché toute sa vie après sa conversion. C’était une vie centrée sur Christ. Quel [bel] endroit où établir son absolu ! Une vie centrée sur Christ. C’était une vie différente de celle qu’il avait menée autrefois. Car il a dit : «La vie que je mène maintenant », qui était différente de celle qu’il avait menée auparavant. Il est arrivé un temps où Paul a vécu cette expérience qui l’a amené à cette décision. En effet, Paul était un très grand homme parmi les Juifs et un – un grand théologien, mais il n’était pas très sûr de sa position
11 Mais un jour sur le chemin de Damas, une Lumière, la Colonne de Feu, est descendue du ciel. Et Paul, étant un Juif, savait que cette Lumière, la Colonne de Feu, était cette Chose qui avait… le Dieu qui avait fait sortir Son peuple d’Egypte. Ils avaient suivi cette Colonne de Feu. Etant donc Juif, il Lui a demandé immédiatement : «Qui es-Tu, Seigneur ?» Il Le connaissait comme Seigneur, mais : «Qui es-Tu ?»
Et de la Colonne de Feu sortit une voix qui répondit : «Je suis Jésus, il te serait dur de regimber contre les aiguillons.» Dès ce moment-là, Paul a compris que le Jéhovah de l’Ancien Testament, c’était Jésus du Nouveau. Et il avait quelque chose auquel il pouvait s’accrocher et c’est ainsi qu’il a pu écrire ce glorieux livre des Hébreux.
12 Eh bien, si vous – si vous avez un absolu dans votre vie, vous ferez des choses que vous ne feriez pas d’ordinaire, surtout si votre vie est centrée sur Dieu. Une vie centrée sur Dieu amène une personne à faire des choses qu’elle ne ferait pas d’ordinaire : des choses très étranges, particulières. Pourquoi la vie chrétienne est-elle si étrange et particulière ? C’est parce que les chrétiens s’appuient sur la Parole de Dieu qui est pratiquement quelque chose d’étranger pour le monde d’aujourd’hui.
Eh bien, nous avons des églises, nous avons des organisations, nous avons de la religion, nous en avons tant à travers le monde. Au cours de mes sept voyages autour du monde, depuis que j’étais avec vous ici à Houston, j’ai appris beaucoup sur les divinités et les religions du monde. Mais ce n’est pas de cela que je parle. Je parle d’un absolu lié à Christ.
Cela fait de vous une – une personne étrange. Vous faites des choses étranges. Vos pensées sont tout à fait différentes de celles que vous aviez autrefois. En effet, vous avez trouvé une ancre pour votre foi, Celui qui a créé le ciel et la terre, dont la Parole même est créatrice, ce Dieu qui a appelé le monde à l’existence, et pour qui il n’y a rien de difficile. Cela fait donc de vous un créateur, parce que vous acceptez Sa Parole. Une parole, c’est une pensée exprimée
13 Paul avait donc atteint ce stade où il n’avait plus du tout une expérience théologique, mais où il avait plutôt un témoignage personnel. Il avait rencontré Dieu, et il savait qu’il était appelé de Dieu, et – et personne ne pouvait lui apprendre quoi que ce soit là-dessus. Il était tout à fait sûr que Dieu restait Dieu. Si seulement les gens pouvaient atteindre ce stade-là et si ce groupe qui est assis ici ce soir pouvait seulement se rappeler que Dieu reste Dieu. Il peut tout autant résoudre ce cas qu’Il le peut pour la guérison divine ou pour n’importe quoi d’autre. Il reste Dieu. Si nous pouvons fonder nos espoirs, non seulement nos – nos espoirs mais aussi nos pensées positives sur ce qu’Il a dit et que nous sachions que c’est la vérité…
14 Les gens agissent de façon étrange. Il semble qu’ils oublient le côté négatif des choses; en effet, ils ont trouvé un absolu, et c’est la Parole de Dieu. Jésus a dit : «Les cieux et la terre passeront mais Mes Paroles ne failliront jamais.» Si donc nous avons la Parole de la promesse, alors nous n’échouerons pas. Elle ne peut pas faillir. Ainsi je – je crois que ça, c’est ce que les réunions de prière ici… Le – le peuple religieux d’Houston s’intéresse à la vie des hommes. Et c’est pour cela que nous nous sommes rassemblés ici, pour – pour invoquer une puissance qui est au-delà de toutes les lois et autorités humaines; Quelque chose qui peut changer les coeurs des hommes comme Dieu l’a fait à Pharaon, en Egypte. Et Il est – Il est Dieu. Et à présent, nous devons cesser de considérer le – le côté négatif, mais nous devons considérer le côté positif.
15 Et avant d’avoir la foi, il vous faut avoir quelque chose où placer cette foi. En quoi d’autre pouvez-vous placer votre foi si ce n’est dans la Parole créatrice du Dieu vivant, et dans les puissances du Tout-Puissant ? Sur quoi d’autre pouvons-nous fonder nos espoirs ? Par conséquent, cela vous rend différent et vous fait agir différemment. Vous vous attendez à Dieu pour qu’Il accomplisse Sa promesse.
Et quand les difficultés surgissent comme nous en avons maintenant, elle devient une ancre. C’est quelque chose qui vous tient, quelque chose auquel vous êtes lié. C’est une promesse selon laquelle nous sommes liés à la Parole de Dieu. Elle est comme une ancre qui est un absolu pour un bateau en temps de tempête. Le bateau peut prendre la mer. L’ancre est placée à l’avant du bateau, elle est – elle – elle est au repos… vous qui habitez Houston, qui êtes si près de la mer, vous voyez les bateaux quand ils viennent. Pourquoi transporte-t-on cette grande et puissante ancre dont le poids est excessif ?
16 Mais vous voyez quand les tempêtes surviennent, ces – ces tempêtes violentes, qui fendent la mer, et qui peuvent jeter le navire quelque part sur le rivage, puis le briser ou le faire chavirer dans les eaux peu profondes… Il entre dans les eaux profondes, lâche cette grande et immense ancre qui est très solide de façon à ce qu’elle traîne au fond de la mer jusqu’à ce qu’elle s’accroche au sommet d’une montagne invisible. Que ces tempêtes se déchaînent donc si elles le veulent, le bateau a un absolu. L’ancre tient quelque part là-bas, et elle est – est solide. Comme le bateau, comme les vagues frappent contre le bateau, celui-ci a un absolu parce qu’il est attaché. C’est ce qu’il en est de l’homme quand il est attaché à Christ et à Sa Parole, et qu’il Y croit. Il y a là un absolu, quelque chose qui le tient.
17 Un absolu, c’est comme l’étoile polaire quand vous êtes perdu. Quand vous avez – Quand vous vous êtes égaré, et que vous voulez retrouver votre route, c’est l’étoile polaire qui est l’absolu. Eh bien, il existe d’autres étoiles, mais elles tournent dans le même sens que la terre. Comme la terre tourne autour d’elles, la… Elle [l’étoile polaire] tourne dans le sens contraire par rapport aux autres. Et le... Savez-vous que l’étoile du matin et l’étoile du soir c’est la même étoile ? En effet, la terre ne fait que tourner. Mais il y a une étoile qui ne se déplace pas, elle est en ligne droite par rapport au centre, au milieu de la terre. Et par conséquent, la…Elle est une étoile sûre. Si vous reconnaissez l’étoile polaire, vous pouvez toujours retrouver votre chemin. Mais, oh, c’est … Quand un homme se perd, et qu’il ne sait plus quelle direction prendre…
18 Eh bien, je connais une Etoile. Oh, Elle vaut plus que l’étoile polaire. Et si vous Lui êtes attaché et que vous voyez Sa présence, peu importe si vous êtes perdu ou peu importe où vous êtes, vous pouvez retrouver votre chemin de retour grâce à Sa conduite. C’est Sa Parole. C’est la voie de salut pour sortir de tout trouble. Elle est la Voie qui mène à la paix, elle est la Voie qui mène à la réussite. Le moyen pour accéder à la Vie Elle-même consiste à suivre cette Etoile, le Seigneur Jésus. Et maintenant, si vous êtes attaché à cette Etoile, le Saint-Esprit est la Boussole qui n’indiquera que l’Etoile. Le Saint…
19 La boussole est aimantée pour indiquer le pôle nord. Peu importe combien grande est la jungle où vous vous trouvez, ou combien profonds sont les fourrés autour de vous, ou combien il y a du brouillard sur la mer, si vous avez la boussole en main, vous pouvez la tourner dans n’importe quelle direction que vous voulez, l’aiguille reviendra immédiatement pour indiquer le nord
Et si nous avons des problèmes et que nous nous confions en Christ, une seule chose est sûre : le Saint-Esprit nous indiquera la Parole qui nous guidera vers l’Etoile Polaire et vers la délivrance totale dont nous avons besoin. Il est notre Absolu. Pour celui qui est perdu dans le désert, la boussole, c’est un instrument qui le guide pour qu’il en sorte. Quand nous avons des problèmes, il n’y a qu’une seule chose, elle est aussi sûre que l’étoile polaire. Tant que la terre gardera sa position, et tournera, l’étoile polaire restera dans sa position.
20 Et tant qu’il y aura une éternité, Christ sera toujours le Sauveur et la Voie du salut pour sortir de chaque problème, de chaque divergence, de chaque épreuve, de tout. Et par conséquent, nous – nous – si nous sommes attachés à Lui, nous ne serons pas troublés ni tout emballés comme le monde. Et oh, qu’allons-nous faire concernant ceci ? Qu’allons-nous faire concernant cela ? C’est comme si nous ne sommes pas encore ancrés. Mais celui qui a ancré son âme en Christ Jésus et qui se confie en Lui, il sait que quand il demande quelque chose au Père en Son Nom, Jésus a dit : «Je le ferai.» Cela règle la chose.
Cela – cela règle la chose. Cela – c’est l’amen, c’est l’absolu ; c’est le point final. C’est cela. Quand Jésus a dit : «Tout ce que vous demanderez au Père en Mon Nom, Je le ferai.» Eh bien, c’est la référence finale. C’est cela. «Tout ce dont vous avez besoin quand vous priez, croyez que vous l’avez reçu et vous le verrez s’accomplir.» Cela règle la chose. C’est tout ce qu’il en est (voyez-vous) si nous sommes réellement ancrés, et que nous croyions cela, et si nous avons fait de Lui notre Absolu. En effet, Il fait… Il est un Absolu qui nous libère de toute peur. Il n’y a aucune crainte, quand on est réellement attaché au Rocher des âges.
21 Le marin n’a pas peur, peu importe combien le bateau est ballotté par les vagues, aussi longtemps que cette ancre est accrochée au sommet de la montagne là-bas. Eh bien, certainement. Il sait que le bateau ne va pas chavirer. Il ne va pas se cogner contre des rochers quelque part. Il n’entrera pas dans une eau peu profonde pour être renversé, car il a un absolu accroché au sommet d’une montagne. Et si un homme peut offrir une prière de la foi, et ancrer son âme là dans la Parole de Dieu selon laquelle tous les cieux et la terre passeront mais pas cette Parole-là, il n’y a pas à craindre. Que les gens viennent raconter ce qu’ils veulent, notre foi reste en Dieu et en Dieu seul. Nous croyons cela.
22 Il y eut un temps où la façon de se tenir à table dans cette nation dépendait de ce qu’avait dit une femme. Je crois qu’elle s’appelait Emily Post. Eh bien, elle était l’absolu en ce qui concerne la façon de se tenir à table. Quand Emily Post disait : «Prenez et mangez vos haricots à l’aide d’un couteau», c’est ce que l’on faisait. C’est ce que l’on faisait parce qu’elle était l’absolu en ce qui concerne la manière de se tenir à table. Quand elle disait : «Prenez votre café dans votre sous-tasse et buvez-le comme d’habitude», peu importe combien c’est sale, c’était tout de même l’absolu. Tout le monde se conformait à cela parce qu’on la prenait comme l’absolu en ce qui concerne la manière de se tenir à table. Il nous faut avoir un absolu, peu importe ce que nous faisons. Si jamais il nous faut atteindre un objectif, nous devons avoir un absolu.
23 En Allemagne, il y eut un temps où la parole d’Hitler était un absolu. Peu importe ce que quelqu’un d’autre disait, la parole d’Hitler demeurait un absolu. S’il disait qu’on tue les gens, on les tuait. S’il disait qu’on les laisse en vie, ils restaient en vie. S’il disait : «Mettons-nous en guerre», «Ne nous mettons pas en guerre», quoi qu’on faisait, c’est sa parole qui était l’absolu.
Il y eut un temps où l’Italie avait un absolu, c’était la parole de son dictateur, Mussolini. Ce qu’il ordonnait de faire… On raconte que son chauffeur était venu le chercher en voiture une minute avant l’heure, il lui tira dessus. Pourquoi ? Il répondit : « Je ne veux pas que tu sois ici une minute avant l’heure. Je veux que tu sois ici à l’heure pile. A l’heure exacte.» Vous voyez, sa parole était un absolu. Toute l’Italie s’y soumettait.
24 Il y eut un temps où, en Egypte, Pharaon était l’absolu. Mais vous voyez… Mais toutes ces décisions que ces gens prenaient, c’était des décisions d’homme, et elles ont toutes failli. Pourquoi ? Parce qu’elles n’étaient pas en accord avec…humain. Elles n’étaient pas en accord avec la Parole de Dieu en ce qui concerne la vie humaine. C’est ce que je désire, j’espère, m’ancrer. Si nous comptons sauver une vie humaine, nous devons venir selon la Parole de Dieu et le plan de Dieu pour la vie humaine. La seule façon pour vous de trouver cela, c’est de le trouver dans Sa Parole et de le croire.
Eh bien, ainsi ces pharaons… J’étais en Egypte il n’y a pas longtemps, je pense qu’il fallait creuser jusqu’à 20 pieds [609,6 cm – N.D.T.] de profondeur dans le sol pour trouver le – l’endroit où Pharaon siégeait comme roi de la terre. Et les grands Hérode et les autres se sont succédé, nous voyons où leurs royaumes se sont effondrés et sont tombés en déclin. Mais il y a un Royaume qui est au- dessus de tous les royaumes. Il est si haut dans les cieux qu’Il ne passera jamais. Il s’y trouve un Roi qui, quand Il prend Sa décision sur quelque chose, nous croyons cette décision, c’est un absolu. Il en sera ainsi, peu importe ce que quelqu’un d’autre dit à ce sujet, c’est toujours ainsi
25 Eh bien, notre Cour Suprême, notre Cour Suprême, ce – c’est un absolu, c’est là que se terminent tous les jugements. Eh bien, il nous faut l’avoir. Parfois, nous pouvons ne pas être d’accord avec sa décision, comme les gens n’étaient pas d’accord avec la décision d’Hitler et celles des autres. Mais cependant, il nous faut avoir cet absolu. Et l’absolu pour la nation en ce qui concerne les jugements, c’est la Cour Suprême. Nos tribunaux locaux peuvent essayer quelque chose et prononcer un jugement, mais la Cour Suprême reste au-dessus de tout. Il nous faut l’avoir. En tant que nation, il nous faut accepter sa décision ; en effet, une nation est liée à cet absolu qu’est la Cour Suprême. Très bien. Tout doit avoir un absolu
26 Saviez-vous qu’il doit y avoir un absolu dans un match ordinaire de base-ball? Oui. Qu’est-ce qu’est l’absolu dans un match de base-ball ? Un arbitre. Et qu’arriverait-il s’il n’y avait pas d’arbitre ? Vous voyez, un arbitre… Peu importe où vous vous tenez, d’où vous regardez et si vous dites : «C’était un coup », et lui dit : «C’était un strike.» Eh bien, ce… C’est ce que c’était. C’était un strike. Pourquoi ? Parce que sa parole… Peu importe ce que les spectateurs disent, ce que quelqu’un d’autre dit, c’est un strike parce qu’il a appelé cela un strike et c’est lui l’arbitre. Bien, et qu’arriverait-il s’il n’y avait pas d’arbitre ? Il y aurait une telle dispute et un chaos total, qu’il n’y aurait pas de match de base-ball. C’est pourquoi il vous faut avoir un absolu pour avoir un match de base-ball. Il doit en être ainsi.
27 Bien, il doit y avoir un – un absolu pour le feu de signalisation. Un feu de signalisation est un absolu ou plutôt pour la circulation routière. Et s’il n’y avait pas de feu de signalisation ? Et qu’arriverait-il si le feu de signalisation était éteint et que vous descendiez la rue en courant, et que quelqu’un venait dans cette direction, et disait : «Eh bien, c’est moi qui étais ici le premier. Je dois passer.» Et il dirait : «Je suis en retard pour le travail.» Vous parlez d’un embouteillage, vous en auriez certainement. Mais vous voyez, le feu de signalisation règle… C’est l’absolu. Si le feu vert est allumé : passez. Si le feu rouge est allumé : arrêtez-vous. S’il n’existait pas de feu de signalisation, il y aura de l’embouteillage.
28 Et c’est ce qu’il y a comme problème dans la foi chrétienne aujourd’hui ; nous avons trop d’embouteillages, chacun crée son propre absolu, alors que nous avons un seul Absolu, et c’est la Parole du Dieu vivant qui règle la question pour toujours, peu importe ce que quelqu’un d’autre dit. La situation est presque semblable à celle du temps des juges. Chacun avait son propre absolu, mais tout échoue, comme c’était le cas avec les pharaons et les autres. Mais l’Absolu de Dieu, c’est Sa Parole. Il La donne, et les cieux et la terre passeront, mais Elle ne passera jamais. J’aime cela
Eh bien, nous n’avons pas assez de temps, considérons donc pendant quelques instants quelques personnages qui ont connu la crise et des moments où la mort était proche juste comme pour notre cas pendant que nous nous tenons ici ce soir. Et ces gens avaient accepté un absolu. Interviewons certains d’entre eux
29 Remontons à une vieille histoire qui nous est tous familière, c’était aux jours où le péché s’était accumulé sur la terre au point que Dieu en avait marre, et que le monde allait être détruit. Et Dieu a donné à Noé un Absolu qui était Sa Parole. Et peu importe… Cet Absolu, c’était pour le salut des gens. Noé savait que le monde allait périr. Et Dieu lui avait donné un Absolu et c’était Sa Parole, eh bien – pour sauver Son peuple de la mort. Eh bien, qu’était l’Absolu pour sauver les gens de la mort du temps de Noé ? C’était la Parole de Dieu qui était l’Absolu, qu’importe si quelqu’un d’autre disait, si la science disait : «Il n’y a pas de pluie là-haut. Nous pouvons atteindre la lune à l’aide de nos instruments. Il n’y a pas de pluie là-bas. Comment va-t-il pleuvoir ?»
Si Dieu a dit que la pluie allait tomber, Dieu est capable de mettre la pluie dans les cieux, s’Il l’a dit. Noé s’est tranquillement mis au travail, il a construit une arche pour sauver les gens. En effet, il y avait un absolu donné aux gens comme quoi ils seraient sauvés s’ils acceptaient la voie pourvue par Dieu pour cet Absolu.
30 Ainsi après… Parfois, après que nous avons accepté l’absolu… Ce que je désire vous dire dans un instant, j’aimerais le dire à l’intention des parents de ces enfants. Eh bien, si le… Parfois, après que nous avons accepté l’Absolu, nous sommes mis à l’épreuve pour voir si nous croyons vraiment cela. Nous – nous… Généralement, c’est ce que Dieu fait et Il agit… Il ne peut pas changer Son programme parce que Sa Parole, c’est Lui-même. «Au commencement était la parole et la parole était avec Dieu et la parole était Dieu. Et la parole fut faite chair et elle a habité parmi nous,» la même hier, aujourd’hui et éternellement. Ainsi, c’est toujours Dieu
31 Lorsqu’Il est appelé sur la scène pour agir, la décision qu’Il prend… Il est obligé de garder cette décision. Il ne peut pas la changer parce qu’Il est infini. Eh bien, je peux changer ma décision ; vous aussi, car nous sommes limités, c’est pourquoi nous commettons des erreurs. Mais Dieu ne peut pas changer Sa décision car Il est infini. Et Sa décision est toujours parfaite. Il ne peut pas dire : «Ici J’avais commis une erreur et Je vais changer ma décision». En effet, cela montrerait que Dieu peut changer ; or Dieu ne peut pas changer, Sa Parole non plus. Il est toujours le même.
32 Ainsi, Dieu a donc mis Noé à l’épreuve après que celui-ci avait accepté Son Absolu. Noé est entré dans l’arche. Dieu a fermé la porte derrière lui. Sans doute que les gens ont dit : «Eh bien, le matin, il y aura des nuages noirs, des tonnerres et des éclairs et il pleuvra.»
Mais vous savez, le jour suivant, le soleil s’est levé tout aussi brillant que par le passé. Je m’imagine les croyants frontaliers disant : «Nous monterons. Le vieil homme pourrait avoir raison à ce sujet. Ainsi, peut-être que la science a tort, il – il pourrait y avoir la pluie là-haut.» Mais souvenez-vous qu’il n’avait jamais plu auparavant. Et ensuite le deuxième jour, le soleil était tout aussi brillant que par le passé. Le troisième, le quatrième, le cinquième, le sixième et même jusqu’au septième jour. Mais Noé était monté à l’étage supérieur afin de pouvoir observer les nuages. Mais au matin du septième jour, quand est venu le temps où les gens ont rejeté l’absolu de Dieu, la voie pour le salut, pour sauver la vie des gens, il s’est mis à pleuvoir et les égouts s’étaient remplis. Et le – le bateau s’est mis à monter et il a transporté Noé et les autres en sécurité. Assurément, car ils s’étaient confiés dans la Parole de Dieu, l’Absolu, la Parole promise de Dieu. Peu importe combien le temps semble mauvais, et combien il fait sombre, croyez toujours votre Absolu.
33 Moïse, eh bien, son – il avait essayé de sauver la vie de ces pauvres Hébreux, et ceux-ci étaient pratiquement aussi malheureux, ou plutôt tout aussi malheureux que ces enfants que nous essayons de sauver ce soir. Ils étaient des esclaves et on les tuait arbitrairement quand on le voulait. Et Moïse avait senti dans son coeur que cela n’était pas la – la volonté de Dieu. Ainsi, il – il avait essayé de s’y prendre par l’instruction, il avait essayé de s’y prendre par ses propres efforts, et il a vu qu’il avait lamentablement échoué. Il avait lui-même fait quelque chose qui n’était pas juste ; en effet, il avait ôté la vie d’un autre homme. Et cela n’était pas juste. Ensuite il est allé au désert, il y est resté quarante ans. Mais un jour, il paissait le troupeau derrière le désert, et il y avait une Lumière là dans le buisson. Et quand Moïse s’est approché de cette Lumière, la voix de Dieu lui a parlé à partir de cette Colonne de Feu qui se trouvait dans ce buisson et Elle a dit : «Moïse, Moïse.»
Et Moïse répondit : «Me voici, Seigneur.»
Et le Seigneur dit : «Ôte tes souliers, car le lieu où tu te tiens est un lieu saint. J’ai entendu les gémissements de Mon peuple. J’ai entendu leurs réunions de prière. Je me suis souvenu que Je leur ai fait une promesse.» Oh! la la! Cela ne devrait-il pas enflammer les coeurs des croyants chrétiens ce soir ? «Je suis Dieu. Je me souviens avoir promis cela.» Comme cette voix était scripturaire ! Ensuite Il a dit : « Moise, Je t’envoie là-bas pour libérer le peuple.»
34 Et Moïse, bien sûr, comme je l’ai dit au début, lorsque vous acceptez cet Absolu de Dieu, cela vous fait faire des choses que… eh bien quelque fois ridicules aux yeux des gens. Pouvez-vous vous imaginer un homme qui a dû fuir les Egyptiens, le matin suivant après avoir rencontré cet absolu… Cette Parole de Dieu lui avait parlé, le témoin véritable. En effet, c’était la Parole, la promesse était là. Et c’était une confirmation du grand Dieu de la création, en accomplissant un miracle en – en présence de Moise et en montrant qu’Il était le Dieu de la création…
35 Et le matin suivant, Moïse prit sa femme, qui portait un –un enfant sur la hanche, et la fit monter sur un mulet, et le… il avait quatre-vingt ans, sa barbe pendait jusqu’à la taille, sa tête chauve brillait, il tenait un bâton crochu à la main, et se dirigeait vers l’Egypte, poussant des cris au possible.
«Où vas-tu, Moïse ?»
«Je m’en vais faire une invasion en Egypte.»
«Faire une invasion ?» Une invasion par un seul homme… Pourquoi ? Il avait un Absolu. Il avait quelque chose, la Parole de Dieu à Laquelle il pouvait s’en tenir. Un homme de quatre-vingt ans, avec un mulet et un bâton à la main. C’est tout ce qu’il avait ; c’est comme une invasion de la Russie par un seul homme aujourd’hui. Et il est allé et a fait l’invasion parce qu’il avait un Absolu. Il avait parlé avec Dieu. Il avait entendu la Voix de Dieu. Et il – la chose, c’était qu’il avait effectivement fait cela. Bien. Pourquoi ? Cela l’accompagnait tous les jours de sa vie. C’était un Absolu.
36 Aucun homme n’a le droit de monter à la chaire pour prêcher l’Evangile si lui-même n’a pas marché sur ces sables sacrés, où aucun agnostique ou incroyant ne peut expliquer le surnaturel de Dieu. Jésus ne voulait pas laisser Ses disciples prêcher. Peu importe combien ils s’étaient familiarisés avec Lui, ils devaient se rendre dans la ville de Jérusalem et attendre là jusqu’à ce qu’ils soient remplis de la puissance d’En-haut. Ils devaient avoir cette expérience.
37 Moïse savait qu’il était un prophète, il savait qu’il était suscité dans ce but-là, mais sans ce contact personnel, cet Absolu, quelque chose qui lui avait prouvé qu’en se rendant là-bas il obtiendrait la délivrance de ce peuple… Il n’était plus le même. Il s’est rendu là parce qu’il avait l’Absolu, et il avait fait exactement ce que Dieu lui avait recommandé. Il n’avait pas peur dans son coeur quand il a jeté les serpents par terre ou plutôt le bâton, et que celui-ci est devenu un serpent. Et les imitateurs charnels se sont présentés avec leur type de ministère et ils ont jeté leurs bâtons par terre, faisant la même chose que Moïse, exactement ce que Dieu avait recommandé à Moïse. Celui-ci ne pouvait rien faire d’autre que se tenir tranquille et voir la gloire de Dieu. Ensuite, nous voyons que Dieu a pris le serpent de Moïse et ce serpent a avalé les autres. C’est comme ça que les choses se sont passées. Il était sûr que le Dieu qui lui avait dit de faire cela, pouvait prendre soin de lui dans une situation difficile.
38 Ne pouvons-nous pas ce soir, du fait que ce jeune homme a donné sa vie à Christ, nous tenir sur cet absolu comme quoi Dieu peut rendre possible l’impossible ? Il peut changer les coeurs des juges. Pourquoi sautons-nous à d’autres choses en étant très excités ? Prenons Dieu d’abord. Ramenons la chose à la promesse. Dieu a promis cela si – que – qu’Il fera cela
Ainsi souvenez-vous, Moïse était toujours singulier parce qu’il avait reçu la Parole de Dieu et il avait cru Cela. Et il avait la confirmation d’une promesse. Combien pouvons-nous en citer ? Nous n’en avons pas le temps.
39 En écrivant ces références aujourd’hui, j’ai écrit ici au sujet de Daniel, que c’était… Ce qu’il y avait, ce que cela allait lui coûter la peine capitale que de prier tout autre dieu. Mais il avait été en contact avec Dieu et il savait que Dieu pouvait prendre soin de lui.
Les enfants Hébreux ont été jetés dans la fournaise ardente et ils devaient être brûlés avec une chaleur sept fois plus forte que la chaleur habituelle. Cela… Les enfants Hébreux croyaient en Dieu. Ils ont dit : «Notre Dieu est capable de nous délivrer de cette fournaise.» Pourquoi ? Ils avaient eu un Absolu. Ils avaient la Parole de Dieu. Et le Dieu qui a pu délivrer ces enfants Hébreux de la cellule de condamné à mort dans la fournaise ardente, combien plus peut-Il délivrer ce petit garçon Juif d’ici qui est couché là dans une cellule de condamné à mort ? Combien plus Il est… Et Il est encore le même Jéhovah Dieu qu’Il a toujours été.
Nous, comme l’apôtre Paul, nous pouvons nous rendre compte que ce même Dieu vit aujourd’hui : qu’Il est le même hier, aujourd’hui et éternellement. Alors les chrétiens peuvent tenir la main immuable de Dieu et changer toute la situation. La prière change les choses. C’est ce que nous voulons faire.
40 Que pouvons-nous dire de Josué ? Comment va-t-il traverser le Jourdain ? C’est comme si Dieu était un drôle de militaire, juste au mois d’avril quand les eaux sont en crue comme cela. Mais Il a dit à Josué : «Prends l’arche et avance.» C’est tout ce qu’il devait faire, et Dieu a repoussé le Jourdain, Il a fait apparaître la terre ferme, le peuple a traversé et a été délivré. Combien c’était… Il n’est pas étonnant que Josué ait dit : «Moi et ma maison, nous servirons l’Eternel.»
Comment David ce grand patriarche… Comme nous aimerions parler de lui. Nous n’en avons pas le temps. Mais bien des fois, comme nous avons entendu, il y a quelques instants, quelqu’un parler de David et de son péché… Mais quand tout cela fut pardonné, alors qu’il allait livrer une bataille, ce que le monde appelle «des moments difficiles»… Et l’opposition était grande. Et David s’était étendu là sous l’arbre et il se débrouillait tout seul jusqu’à ce qu’il a entendît un bruit qui parcourait les mûriers. A ce moment-là, les choses avaient changé. David s’est levé et est reparti parce qu’il avait un absolu; en fait, il a compris que c’était Dieu qui allait devant lui
Ne pouvons-nous pas offrir la prière de la foi qui enverra Dieu dans ce comité de probation et d’assistance aux libertés là-bas ? Nous le pouvons certainement. Nous croyons que nous le pouvons si nous nous accrochons à cet absolu.
41 Abraham appelait les choses qui n’existaient pas comme si elles existaient ; en effet, il avait un absolu, une promesse de Dieu comme quoi Dieu allait lui donner son – lui donner un enfant par Sara. Et quand elle avait cent ans – ou c’était plutôt Abraham, et elle avait quatre-vingt-dix, néanmoins il ne douta pas de la promesse de Dieu par incrédulité, mais il était fortifié et il donnait gloire à Dieu. Et nous prétendons être des enfants d’Abraham, alors qu’Abraham…
Alors que nous avons cette Bible qui est écrite depuis le temps d’Abraham, et tous les témoignages que nous avons eus après, qui prouvent que Jéhovah tient Sa Parole – et que Christ est le Fils de Dieu. Il est le médiateur entre Dieu et l’homme. Et en dehors de Lui, il n’y a pas d’autre médiateur, et Il a promis : «Si vous demandez quelque chose au Père en Mon Nom, cela vous sera accordé…» Et nous prétendons être des enfants d’Abraham, alors qu’Abraham avait appelé les choses qui n’étaient pas comme si elles existaient parce qu’il croyait en Dieu. Absolument. Je crois cela de tout mon coeur
42 Paul était… Une vie centrée sur Christ, c’était ça son absolu ; cela l’avait lié. Christ était l’Absolu de la résurrection comme nous l’avons lu ici. Il a dit : «Dieu a juré par un serment à David qu’Il ne laisserait pas son âme au séjour des morts.» Un serment, c’est la fin de tout différend. Et Il a juré qu’Il ne laisserait pas Son âme au séjour des morts, mais qu’Il Le ressusciterait. C’est pourquoi Il s’est confié en Dieu, Il fut crucifié, Il est mort, Il est ressuscité et Il est monté au ciel parce qu’Il croyait en Dieu
Combien plus, comme Il nous montre l’exemple, nous pourrions recevoir l’absolu ? Si Christ a pu accepter cela sur base d’une seule promesse là, combien plus nous pourrions accepter cela sur base des milliers de promesses ? Et avec le Sang de Jésus-Christ là pour nettoyer notre voie et nous amener de l’autre côté de ce grand abîme du péché qui nous a séparés de Dieu par l’incrédulité et nous amener juste dans Sa Présence pour Lui parler, combien plus devrions-nous accepter cela?
43 Oui, il nous faut avoir un absolu. Je pense à l’un de ces absolus, maintenant même alors que nous terminons, c’est George Washington. Quand l’Amérique était à ses débuts et que nous étions en train de combattre pour la vie, la vie de cette grande nation que nous avons, George Washington était un chrétien. Il était un croyant. Et, j’ai appris que là à Valley Forge, les soldats américains avaient seulement – environ un tiers d’entre eux seulement étaient chaussés, et l’hiver était froid, la température était de zéro, la rivière gelait et celle-ci débordait et les Anglais étaient de l’autre côté, et pourtant cette petite nation était sur le point de naître
Qu’a-t-il fait? Il était un chrétien. Il est sorti pendant la nuit, il s’est agenouillé dans la neige, et il a prié jusqu’à ce qu’il fût trempé de neige, et l’eau lui arrivait à la taille. Et il est resté là et il a prié jusqu’à ce qu’il eût reçu l’absolu, la réponse venant de Dieu, comme quoi Dieu allait lui donner la victoire. Et le jour suivant à Valley Forge, c’était facile pour lui ; il avait traversé le Delaware, il s’est frayé un chemin à travers la glace avec des soldats à moitié vêtus, à moitié gelés, aux pieds nus sur le sol, dans la neige. Et il a reçu l’absolu quand trois balles de fusil avaient traversé son manteau. Pourquoi ? Il avait confiance dans l’absolu d’une prière exhaussée. Amen. C’est cela même le fondement de notre nation.
44 Qu’ont-ils ces gens qui prétendent être des chrétiens aujourd’hui ? Pourquoi sommes-nous troublés dans une heure comme celle-ci ? Ne soyons pas troublés. Soyons des soldats. Absolument. Il a prié jusqu’à ce qu’il reçût cette réponse. Ainsi donc, malgré les eaux troubles, les soldats aux pieds nus, ils n’ont pas tenu compte des circonstances, ils pouvaient accepter cela parce que Dieu l’avait dit. Une balle provenant du fusil de l’ennemi ne pouvait même pas le tuer. Certainement pas. Pourquoi ? Il avait eu une réunion de prière. Il a reçu la réponse.
45 Que c’était merveilleux une nuit quand l’apôtre Pierre était en prison et qu’on allait l’exécuter le lendemain matin. Il allait mourir de la peine capitale comme ce petit Juif aujourd’hui. Mais qu’ont-ils fait ? Ils ont fait la même chose que nous essayons de faire ici à Houston. Ils avaient formé une ligne de prière dans la maison de Jean Marc. Pendant qu’ils priaient, l’Ange du Seigneur est allé à la prison, Il a ouvert les barrières de la prison, Il a ouvert les portes et Il est allé plus loin, a fait sortir Pierre et celui-ci s’est immédiatement rendu à la réunion de prière. Je crois ce soir que ce même Dieu est vivant. S’Il n’est pas le même Dieu, alors il y a quelque chose qui cloche. Certainement. Comment y est-on arrivé ? Par une réunion de prière tenue par des chrétiens loyaux qui ont cru, et qui ont cru que Dieu délivrerait leur frère de la peine capitale. C’étaient des chrétiens qui sont restés toute la nuit, la face contre terre, qui ont crié [à Dieu]et prié
46 C’est comme ce que j’ai entendu l’un des ministres dire, il y a un moment, qu’il allait crier [à Dieu] pendant toute la nuit… L’ennui aujourd’hui, c’est que les gens se relâchent. Ils sont fatigués et plongés dans la torpeur. C’est à peine s’ils peuvent même rester dans une réunion de dix minutes. Eh bien, ce – c’est faux. Si vous aimez Dieu, eh bien – eh bien, nous devrions être occupés. Ce – cela devrait être nos – nos espoirs, nos désirs, nous devrions aimer Christ avec tout ce qu’il y a en nous. Amen. Nous sommes très paresseux. Nous sommes très indifférents alors que le monde se meurt sous nos pieds. C’est vrai. Des vies humaines s’éteignent sans Dieu, et nous sommes très – très indifférents. Tant que nous sommes membres d’une église, nous pensons que c’est tout ce qui importe.
47 Je parlais de la Venue de Christ il y a quelques semaines dans une certaine église. Et après, un – quelqu’un m’a rencontré au fond de l’église et il a dit : «Frère Branham, vous effrayez les gens à mort.»
J’ai dit : «Pourquoi ferai-je une telle chose?»
Il a dit : «Eh bien, vous parlez de la Venue de Christ. Je n’aime pas entendre de telles choses. J’ai un petit garçon ici que je dois élever. J’ai une fille qui va à l’école.»
«Eh bien, ai-je dit, la venue de Christ, c’est la chose la plus glorieuse que je puisse m’imaginer.» Certainement. Vous voyez, la Bible dit : «Tous ceux qui aiment son apparition…» Oh! la la! pour le jour où ce corps mortel revêtira l’immortalité, et cette – cette maison pestiférée dans laquelle j’habite sera changée en un instant, en un clin d’oeil, et un corps semblable à Son propre corps glorieux…Cela devrait être le désir du coeur de l’église. Tout homme et toute femme devraient être en feu, prêchant dans les rues et partout ailleurs, essayant de sauver des âmes. Certainement.
48 Je me demande si nous sommes vraiment attachés à cet absolu que nous prétendons avoir. Sommes-nous en train de regarder la véritable étoile du matin ? Si nous avons simplement confiance en notre église, en notre dénomination, en notre affiliation… Comme le monde change, cela change avec lui, continuellement. Mais il n’y a qu’une seule étoile qui ne change jamais, il n’y a qu’un seul Etre qui ne peut pas changer, c’est Dieu. Dieu ne peut pas changer. Sa Parole ne peut pas changer. Sa Bible ne peut pas changer. Et si un homme est né de l’Esprit de Dieu, et qu’il a Christ en lui, il ponctuera chaque promesse d’un «amen», comme quoi c’est la vérité. Certainement
49 Oh! certainement, la réunion de prière, c’est ce dont nous avons besoin. Nous devons être des chrétiens. Tous les chrétiens doivent se servir de ce même Absolu, la Parole de Dieu. La Parole de Dieu, c’est ça l’appui pour le chrétien. Jésus a dit dans Sa Parole : «Si vous demeurez en Moi et que Mes Paroles demeurent en vous, alors vous pouvez demander ce que vous voulez et cela vous sera accordé.» Pensez-y. Quel autre absolu désirez-vous? En quoi pouvez-vous davantage vous confier si ce n’est en quelque chose de ce genre ? «Si vous demeurez en Moi et que Mes Paroles demeurent en vous, demandez alors ce que vous voulez.» Je désire demander à Dieu d’agir dans le coeur de ce juge, ou dans le comité de probation et d’assistance aux libérés afin que ce petit garçon quitte la cellule de condamné à mort. Si seulement nous demandons cela avec foi, en croyant, au cours de ces réunions de prière, nous obtiendrons cela. C’est… C’est de cette façon là que je crois Dieu.
50 Je suis… La foi que j’ai en Dieu, c’est la raison pour laquelle je suis ici ce soir. C’est ainsi que j’ai annulé toute autre chose, et que je suis venu ici. Je devrais faire des centaines de kilomètres en voiture, ce soir, pour retourner à Tucson en Arizona ; en effet, je viens joindre ma foi à la vôtre. Il s’agit d’un être humain, il s’agit d’une âme qui se trouve là-bas, il s’agit de quelqu’un qui est dans le besoin. Et nous les chrétiens, nous devons prendre conscience de la réalité, de la vraie foi authentique. Liez cela à la Parole de Dieu et revendiquez cette promesse. Oui, oui. Oh ! la la ! «Si vous demeurez en Moi et que Mes Paroles demeurent en vous, demandez ce que vous voulez.» Et ensuite : «Si le peuple qui est appelé de Mon Nom se rassemble et prie, J’entendrai des cieux.» La réunion de prière, c’est de cela qu’il s’agit.
51 Je suis d’avis que l’on parle aux avocats, aux magistrats, aux juges, aux membres du comité de probation et d’assistance aux libérés, ou que sais-je encore. Eh bien, tout cela est correct. Mais frères, si votre espoir n’est attaché qu’à un homme charnel de la pensée ou plutôt qu’à la pensée d’un homme charnel, certainement que vous serez fort déçu. Mais si vous pouvez attacher votre foi à une Ecriture que vous connaissez, et que vous vous y accrochiez et priiez jusqu’à ce que Dieu réponde, et si dans votre coeur, vous savez que vous l’avez reçu, quelque chose va se passer.
J’ai vu des morts ressusciter de chambres mortuaires, j’ai vu s’ouvrir les – les yeux des aveugles, et les oreilles des sourds, j’ai vu des gens rongés par le cancer, le sarcome et la lèpre, être guéris par la puissance du Dieu Tout-Puissant parce que les gens avaient la foi pour croire que le Dieu qui a fait la promesse est capable de tenir Sa promesse. 52 Attachez-vous à cela, accrochez-vous-y et priez ; non seulement s’agenouiller et dire : «Ô Dieu, libère le pauvre petit ami et envoie-le chez lui.» Nous apprécierons tous cela. Mais restons là jusqu’à ce que quelque chose se passe. Oh, quand quelque chose se passe, alors cette assurance pourra descendre sur cette petite poignée de gens qui sont assis ici dans cet auditorium ce soir. C’est la raison pour laquelle je suis ici pour offrir ma prière avec vous tous afin que Dieu leur épargne la vie. 53 Sur cela… Ce même Dieu qui a pu prendre un petit Juif au nez crochu comme Paul qui était colérique et qui descendait là pour exécuter tous les chrétiens qui étaient condamnés à mort, le Dieu qui a pu le changer et faire de lui un aimable chrétien, ce même Dieu est vivant ce soir. 54 Ensuite dans Marc 11 : 22, quand vous avez prié jusqu’au bout, Il a dit : «En vérité, en vérité, Je vous le dis, ayez foi en Dieu. Je vous le dis, si quelqu’un dit à cette montagne, ôte-toi …» Quand cet absolu vient en vous, quand vous êtes oint de l’Esprit qui est au-delà de toute loi scientifique là-bas… Avant qu’il y ait un atome ou une molécule, Celui qui a appelé toute chose à l’existence… Et quand votre âme est ancrée là-dedans, rien ne peut l’arrêter. C’est vrai. «Si vous dites à cette montagne : ‘Ôte-toi de là’ et que vous ne doutiez pas dans votre coeur mais croyiez que ce que vous avez dit arrivera, cela vous sera accordé.» Si ce n’est pas là un absolu auquel s’accrocher! 55 Eh bien, une nation a un absolu, votre vie en famille a un absolu, partout. Si jamais elle doit atteindre un objectif, il faut qu’elle ait un absolu. Nous apprécions cet avocat. Nous apprécions, oh, tous les autres hommes… Cet aimable aumônier qui est venu de la Californie…et quel merveilleux message ! Et – et notre frère qui a essayé de récolter de l’argent et tout, pour essayer d’aider cette pauvre femme ainsi – ainsi que ses enfants pour qu’on les libère. Tout cela est bon, et nous apprécions cela et je suis pour cela.
Mais, il y a une chose au-dessus de cela, mes amis, quand nous aurons terminé cette réunion ce soir, nous devrons rattacher cela à un absolu, une réunion de prière devant Dieu qui enverra la délivrance du même Jéhovah-Dieu. Il est tout autant Dieu ce soir qu’Il l’était alors. Alléluia ! Croyez-vous cela? Levons-nous alors, et tenons une réunion de prière ce soir jusqu’à ce que nous recevions un absolu. E-1 Thank you, Brother Hutchinson. Good evening to Houston. I certainly deem this a great privilege of being here again tonight in Houston. It's been many years since I've had the privilege of being here, and I've been setting, listening tonight to each of these speakers. And the other day when I had arrangements made for something else, another place, and I knew that those children were facing death, I thought if something would happen to those children I would never forgive myself of not coming here to give my opinion, and doing all that I could to help this mother and father, and--of these children, and to do all that I could for the saving of their lives.
E-2 And Houston has--is a memorial place to me. It holds many great memories that I have cherished ever since I first made my visit here many years ago, over here to the Herald of Faith: Brother Kidson, and then down here to the auditorium, when I was here with Brother Raymond Richey and the ministers of the city. And then, of course, Mr. Ayers, Mr. Kipperman, the night that the camera proved that I wasn't telling anything that was wrong, it was truth. And when the mechanical eye of the camera caught the vision of the--or not the vision, the reality, the Christ that we preach and so love was with us, that He promised to be with us. And the camera took His picture.
E-3 Many times I've said in times past, that that--I'd see that Light all the time, but sometimes people would be a little skeptic of it (which you could believe they could be that way), but that night it proved it. That was the first time it was ever taken. Since then it's been taken several times, in Germany just recently coming down when the anointing was, and when it went back again. And those things are not to magnify some human being, but it's to a-vindicate the Presence of Jesus Christ among his people. And we believe that that same Lord Jesus is here tonight to help us in this case.
And I believe that He's more interested in it than we could be. And I am certainly in sympathy with the parents of these children, and shoulder-to-shoulder with every man and woman that's trying to deliver them from the jaws of death.
E-4 And now, I understand that this is not a revival meeting, but it's just a--a series of prayer meetings being held for these souls that's laying in the shadows of death. And so I'm late and I will not speak very long, but I would like to draw a text, or a context, rather, from a text that I would like to read in two places in the Scripture. And you who have the Bibles, if you would turn with me for just a moment to the book of Philippians the 1st chapter, and the 20th verse of the 1st chapter of Philippians.
According to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but... with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be... life, or death.
E-5 And then also in the book of Acts the 2nd chapter and the 30th verse. I might read the 25th through the 30th.
For David spake concerning him, for I foresaw the Lord always before my face, for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved:
Therefore did my heart rejoice, and my tongue was glad; moreover also my flesh shall rest in hope:
Because thou will not leave my soul in hell, neither will thou suffer thy Holy One to see corruption.
Thou hast made known to me the way of life; thou shalt make me full of joy with thy countenances.
Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto You of the patriarch David, that he's both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day.
Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to set on his throne;
He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither did his flesh see corruption.
E-6 Let us bow our heads just a moment for prayer. Our heavenly Father, we are grateful to Thee for mercy. And that's truly, Lord, why we are here tonight, is to ask mercy. We would not ask this if we did not have faith to believe that it would be granted to us. Men has flown across the country, and prayers are going up everywhere to Thee that the lives of these that we are earnestly interceding for tonight may be spared. Lord, we would ask for strength for the mothers and fathers of these young people.
And as we understand that this young man has turned his life to Thee, and wants to serve Thee, and as we heard one of the speakers say, that he wanted to become a minister of the Gospel, I pray God that You'll grant this opportunity to the young fellow.
Forgive us of our sins, cleanse our hearts from evil thoughts, and whatever would be in our way that would hinder our prayer from being answered for these people. As we have read Thy Word, we know both heavens and earth will pass away but Thy Word shall not fail.
We pray that You'll add to us by the Holy Spirit the context that would take, that would be Your Divine will in this case now, as we've heard the attorney and many speaking. And we pray that we will find just what to do next. What is our next step to do? Lord, we're here to do it. Make it known to us, Lord, through Thy Word. For we ask it in the Name of Thy Son, the Lord Jesus. Amen.
E-7 Reading these few verses, and I realize the occasion is great, because it's concern I would think... When I heard and got that mother's telegram, "What if that was my son setting in that row or my daughter?" And I... We want to put everything that we can to it. And then some might say, "Well, that was just a very small portion of the Word that you read, Brother Branham." Well, that may be true too. But, you see, it isn't the--the size of the amount of words, it's what it means. It's--it's just... What it is--it's the promise of God. And I want to draw from this night--from this text tonight, or for a text from this, "A Absolute."
E-8 And I've chosen this text awhile ago setting in my motel room, because I think that now we need something positive, some absolute that we can hold on to and know that it's true. In crucial hour like this we must have something that we are positive that's right, something that we can hold to, to know whether the--how the case is going.
Now, according to--to Webster, "a absolute in itself is unlimited in power and primarily is an ultimate." And an "ultimate" is an "amen." It's the absolute as what it... That's the end. That's everything. Now, every great achievement that's ever been in the world has been tied to some sort of an absolute. You cannot do anything unless there's something that you can hold to.
E-9 When a young man is going to get married to a young woman, he must know the character of this young woman. Or the young woman must know the character of the young man, something that she can hold to. Will this man be a just man? Will he make me the right type of husband? Will this woman give to me in life what I--what I expect out of her, of loyalty and so forth? And then it's got to be somewhere that they can base their--their vows upon, knowing that there's something that will hold. And that's the reason we bring them to the church, and to the Word of God, to get this absolute tied.
E-10 Now, Paul here, as we see, he had an absolute that he held to all his life after his conversion. That was a Christ-centered life. And what a place to have an absolute: a Christ-centered life. It was a different life than what he had lived at one time. For he said, "The life that I now live," which was a different from what he had lived. And there come a time that Paul had this experience that brought him to this decision. For Paul was a great mighty man amongst the Jews and a--a great theologian, but he wasn't too sure of his standing.
E-11 But one day on the road down to Damascus a Light, Pillar of Fire, came down from heaven. And Paul, being a Jew, was acquainted that this Light, Pillar of Fire, had been the thing that had--the God that had led his people out of Egypt. They had followed this Pillar of Fire. So being a Jew, he said to Him quickly, "Lord, Who art Thou?" He knew Him as Lord, but "Who art Thou?"
And the voice came back from the Pillar of Fire, "I am Jesus, and it's hard for you to kick against the pricks." From that time on, Paul knew that the Jehovah of the Old Testament was Jesus of the New. And he had something that he could hold to, and that's how he could write that great book of Hebrews.
E-12 Now, if you--if in your life you have an absolute, you do things ordinarily you would not do, especially if you have a God-centered life. The God-centered life makes a person do things that ordinarily they would not do: very odd, peculiar. Why is a Christian life so odd and peculiar? It's because that they are looking to God's Word, which is almost foreign to the world today.
Now, we have churches, and we have organizations, and we have religion, oh, much of it around the world. In my seven times around, since I was here with you at Houston, I've accumulated much knowledge on the gods and the religions of this world. But that isn't what I'm talking about. I'm talking about an absolute connected with Christ.
Then it makes you a--a odd person. You do odd things. Your thinking is altogether different than the thinking you once did, because you have found something that you've anchored a faith in Someone that created the heavens and the earth, that His very Word itself is creative, a God Who spoke the world into existence, and there's nothing too hard for Him. So it makes you creative yourself, because you take His Word. And a word is a thought expressed.
E-13 Now, Paul had got into that state to where that he had not a theological experience altogether, but he had a personal witness. He had met God and knew that he was called of God and--and nobody had to tell him anything about it. He was absolutely sure that God still remained God. If the world could just do that, and if this group tonight setting here could just remember that God is still God, He's just as able to answer in this case as He is in a case of Divine healing or anything else. He's still God. And if we can build our hopes, not only our--our hopes, but our positive thought upon what He says, and we know that it is the truth...
E-14 And people act funny. They seem to just forget about the negative side because they have found an absolute, because it's the Word of God. Jesus said, "Heavens and earth will pass away but My Word shall never fail." So if we've got the Word of promise, then there's no failing to it. It cannot fail. So I--I'm believing that that's what the prayer meetings here... The--the religious people of Houston are interested in human lives. And that's what we are gathered here for, is to--is to call on a power that's beyond all manmade laws and powers, something Who can change the hearts of men like He did Pharaoh in Egypt. And He's--He's God. And we must stop now looking at the--the negative side and go to looking at the positive side.
E-15 And before you can have faith, you've got to have something to have faith in. And what more can you trust faith in than you can in the Word of the living God, what's creative, the powers of the Almighty? What more could we put our hopes in? Therefore it makes you look different, act different. You are looking for God to fulfill His promise.
And when difficulties arise like we have now, it is an anchor. It's something that--that holds you, something that you're tied to. It's a promise that we have been tied to the Word of God. It's just like the anchor is the absolute to the ship in the time of storm. The ship can be sailing the sea. The anchor is out in the front, it's--it--it rests... You people here in Houston, so close to the sea, see the ships come in. And why carry this excess weight of this great mighty anchor?
E-16 But you see when the storms come, the--the raging storms that rips up the sea, and could throw the vessel into the bank somewhere, and crash it, or turn it over in the shallow waters... It gets out into the deep water and lets down this great huge anchor, that's so fixed that it'll drag on the bottom of the sea until it hooks into the top of some unseen mountain. Then let those storms rage if they want to; it's got an absolute. The anchor holds somewhere yonder, but it's--it's tight. As the ship and the waves whip around the ship, it's got an absolute because it's tied. And that's the way that a man is when he's tied to Christ and to His Word, and believes It. There's an absolute there, something that holds him.
E-17 An absolute is like the north star when you're lost. When you've--when you've lost your direction and you want to find your way back, the north star is an absolute. Now there's other stars, but they turn with the world. As the world turns around them, the--it turns away from them. And the... Did you know, the same morning star is the evening star also, because the world's just turned around. But there's one star that does not move, and it's centered right in the middle of the earth. And therefore, the--it's a--it's a sure star, If you know the north star you can always find your way around. But, oh, that's--when a man's lost, and he doesn't know just which way to go...
E-18 Now, I know a Star. Oh, it's more than a North Star. And to be tied and see His Presence, no matter how you're lost or where you are, you can find your way back by His guidance. That's His Word. It's the way out of all troubles; It's the way to peace; It's the way to success. It's the way to Life itself is to follow this Star, the Lord Jesus. And now, if you are tied to that Star, the Holy Spirit is the Compass that'll only point to the Star. The Holy...
E-19 A compass, it is magnetized to that north pole. And the only way, no matter how much jungle you're in, or how deep the thickets are around you, or how foggy it is at sea, that compass hand, you can turn it any way you want to, and it'll swing right back and point to the north star.
And when we're in trouble and trusting Christ, there's one thing sure: the Holy Spirit will point us to the Word that'll guide us to the North Star, and to deliverance of everything we have need of. He is our Absolute. To the man that's lost in the wilderness, the compass is the thing that guides him to the outward. When we're in trouble, there's only one thing; it's just as sure as the north star. As long as the world stands in its position and turns around, the north star will remain in its place.
E-20 And long as there is an eternity, Christ will ever be the Saviour, and the way out of every problem, every difference, every trial, everything. And therefore, we--we--when we're tied to Him we don't get flusterated and all worked up like the world does. And oh, what will we do about this? What will we do about that? We seem as if we're not even anchored. But a man who's anchored his soul into Christ Jesus, his trust there, knowing that when he asks the Father anything in His Name Jesus said, "I'll do it." That settles it.
That--that settles it. It--It's the amen; it's the absolute; it's the ultimate. When Jesus said, "Ask the Father anything in My Name, I'll grant it," now that's an ultimate. That's it. "Whatever you have need of, when you pray, believe that you receive it; you shall have it." That settles it. That's all of it (See?) if we're really anchored and believe it and we've made Him our Absolute. 'Cause He does... He is the Absolute that takes us from all fear. There's no fear when you're really tied to the Rock of Ages.
E-21 There's no fear to the sailor, how hard the ship's being buffet by the waves, as long as that anchor's holding in the top of the mountain yonder. Why, sure. He knows the ship's going to stay up. It isn't going against some rocks somewhere. It isn't going to get in some shallow water and be turned over, because it's got the absolute anchored in the top of some mountain. And when a man can pray the prayer of faith and anchor his soul yonder in the Word of God, where all heavens and earth will pass away, but that Word cannot, there is no fear. Let them come, say whatever they want to. Our faith is in God, God alone. We believe it.
E-22 There was a time that when the table manners of this nation rested upon the word of a woman. I believe her name was called Emily Post. Now, she was the absolute to table manners. If Emily Post said, "Take and eat your beans with your knife," that was it. That was it, because she was the absolute for table manners. If she said, "Drink your coffee out of your saucer and sup it as you did," no matter how sloppy it'd sound, it was still the absolute. Everybody bowed to it because they taken her to be the absolute of table manners. We've got to have an absolute no matter what we're doing. If we're ever going to achieve anything, we've got to have an absolute.
E-23 There was a time when Hitler's word was an absolute in Germany. No matter what anybody else said, Hitler's word was an absolute. If he said they die, they die. If he said they lived, they live. And if he said, "We go to war," "We do not go to war," whatever we do, his word was an absolute.
There was a time that when Italy had an absolute; that was the word of their dictator, Mussolini. What he said do... They said his chauffeur drove up one minute early to get him. He shot him. Why? He said, "I don't want you here one minute early. I want you here on the dot, exactly time." See, his word was absolute. All Italy bowed to it.
E-24 There was a time when Pharaoh in Egypt was an absolute. But you see... But all these decisions that they made were manmade decisions, and they all fell. Why? Because they were not in accordance with human... It wasn't in accordance with God's Word for human life. I want that, I hope, to anchor. If we expect to save human life, we've got to come in accordance with God's Word and God's plan for human life. And the only way you're going to find this is to find it in His Word and believe it.
Now, so them Pharaohs... I was in Egypt not long ago, and I think they had to dig twenty feet down in the ground to find the--the place where Pharaoh was seated as a king of the earth. And great Herods and so forth passing down along the line, we see where their kingdoms has fallen and gone on. But there is one Kingdom that's above all kingdoms. It's so high into the heavens till it'll never pass away. And there sets a King that when He makes His decision on anything and we believe that decision, that is an absolute. It's going to be that way regardless of what anyone else says about it; it's always.
E-25 Now, our Supreme Court, our Supreme Court, it--it is an absolute, the end of all the trials. Now, we have to have it. Sometime we might not agree with its decision, like they didn't agree with Hitler's and so forth, but yet we've got to have this absolute. And the absolute of the nation and trials is the Supreme Court. Our local courts can try anything and pronounce this, but the Supreme Court rules over all. We must have it. As a nation we must have its decision, because a nation is tied to this absolute of the Supreme Court. All right. Everything must have an absolute.
E-26 Did you know a common ball game has to have an absolute? Yeah. What is the absolute of a ball game? An umpire. What if there is no umpire? See, a umpire... No matter where you're standing, what position you look at, and you say, "It was a ball," and he said, "It was a strike." Well, it... That's what it was. It was a strike. Why? Because his word, no matter what the bleachers said, what somebody else said, it's a strike because he called it a strike, and he's the umpire. Now, what if there was no umpire? There'd be such a fuss and everything in chaos till you couldn't have the ball game. Therefore, you've got to have a absolute to have a ball game. It must be that way.
E-27 Now, there must be a--an absolute in a traffic light. A traffic light is an absolute, rather, to traffic. What if there was no traffic light? Or what if the traffic light was out and you run down the street? And one fellow was coming this way and he said, "Now, I was here first. I've got to get through there." And said, "I'm late for work." Talk about a traffic jam, you'd really have it. But, see, the traffic light settles... It's the absolute. If the light is green: go. If it's red: stop. If there is no such a thing as a--a traffic light, then we'd have traffic jams.
E-28 And that's what's the matter in the Christian faith today; we've got too many traffic jams, everybody making their own absolute, when we've got one Absolute and that's the Word of the living God that settles it forever, no matter what anyone else says. It's almost gotten to a place like it was in the days of Judges. Everybody has their own absolute, but it all fails, like the Pharaohs and so forth. But God's absolute is His Word. He gives it, and heavens and earth will pass away, but It shall never pass away. I like that.
Now, we haven't got much time, so just--just look for a few moments to a few people that did come into crisis, and of times where death was at hand, like we're standing tonight, and they took an absolute. Let's interview some of them.
E-29 Let's go back to an old story that's familiar to all of us: in the days when sin had heaped into the world till God got sick and tired of it, and the world was going to be destroyed. And God gave Noah an Absolute; that was His Word. And no matter... That absolute was of the saving of the people. Noah knew that the world was going to die. And God gave him the Absolute, and that was His Word, now--to save His people from death. Now, what was the Absolute to save people from death in Noah's time? Was the Word of God, that was the Absolute, no matter what anybody else said, what science said, "There's no rain up there. We can shoot the moon with our instruments. There's no rain there. How's rain going to come down?"
If God said that there would be rain fall, God can put rain in the skies if He said so. Noah went right about his business, relaxed, and preparing an ark for the saving of the people. For there was an Absolute given to the people that they would be saved if they took God's provided way for this Absolute.
E-30 So after... Sometimes when we've accepted the absolute... I would like to say this because of the parents of these children of what I want to tell you just in a moment.
Now, if the... Sometimes when we have accepted it, we are put to trial to see if we really believe it. We--we... God usually does that, and God works... He cannot change His program because His Word is Himself. "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. And the Word was made flesh and dwelled among us, the same yesterday, today, and forever." So it's always God.
E-31 When He's called upon a scene to act and the decision that He makes, He has to ever remain with that decision. He cannot change it, because He's infinite. Now, I can change my decision, you can, because we're finite; therefore, we make mistakes. But God cannot change His decision, because He's infinite and His decision is perfect always. He cannot say, "I was wrong here, and I'll change My decision," because that would show God could change, and God cannot change. Neither can His Word change. He's the same always.
E-32 So God gave Noah a trial after accepting His Absolute. Noah went into the ark. God shut the door behind him. No doubt they said, "Now, in the morning there'll be black clouds, and there'll be thunder and lightning, and the rains will fall."
But you know, the next day the sun come up just as bright as it ever did. I imagine the borderline believers, that said, "We'll go up. The old man could've been right about that. So maybe science was wrong, that there--there could be some rain up there."
But you remember, it'd never rained. But then the second day the sun was just as bright as it always was. Third, fourth, fifth, sixth, and even to the seventh day. But Noah had climbed up in the upper room so he could watch the skies. And on that seventh morning, when there come a time when people had refused God's absolute way of salvation, of saving of the lives of the people, the rains begin to fall and the sewers filled up. And the--the boat begin to rise, and it took Noah and them to safety. Sure, because they were trusting in God's Word, the Absolute, God's Word of promise. No matter how bad it seems like and how dark it gets, still believe your Absolute.
E-33 Moses, why, his--he had tried to save the life of those poor Hebrews, and they were almost as bad off, or just as bad off, as these two children are that we're trying to save tonight. They were slaves, and they killed them just at random, whenever they wanted to. And Moses felt in his heart that that wasn't the--the will of God. So he--he tried to do it through education; he tried to do it through his own efforts; and he found out that he miserably failed. He did something himself that wasn't right, because he took another man's life. And that was not right. Then he went into the wilderness and was there for forty years.
But one day he was herding sheep on the backside of the desert and there was a Light in a bush. And when Moses got near this Light, the voice of God spoke to him out of this Pillar of Fire laying back in this bush, and said, "Moses, Moses."
And he said, "Here am I, Lord."
And He said, "Take off your shoes, for the ground that you stand on is holy. I have heard the groans of My people. I've heard their prayer meetings. I've remembered that I made them a promise." My, if that oughtn't to set the hearts of Christian believers afire tonight. "I am God. I remembered I promised it." How Scriptural that voice was. And He said, "Moses, I'm sending you down there to deliver them."
E-34 And Moses, 'course as I've said at the beginning, when you take that absolute of God, it makes you do things that--well, sometimes ridiculous in the sight of the people. Could you imagine a man that had run from the Egyptians, the next morning after seeing this absolute... This Word of God spoke to him positive witness. Because it was the Word, the promise was there. And a vindication of the great God of creation how He performed a miracle in the--in the presence of Moses and showed that He was a God of creation...
E-35 And Moses the next morning took his wife and set her on a mule with a--the kid on her hip, and the--eighty years old, whiskers hanging to his waistline, his bald head shining, with a crooked stick in his hand, going down towards Egypt, shouting as hard as he could go.
"Where you going, Moses?"
"I'm going down to Egypt to take over."
"Take over?" A one-man invasion... Why? He had an absolute. He had something; he had the Word of God he could stand on. A man of eighty years old with a mule and a stick in his hand. That's all he had, like a one-man invasion to Russia today. But he went down and took over because he had a Absolute. He had talked to God. He'd heard the voice of God. And he--the thing of it was, he did it. Right. Why? That was with him all the days of his life. It was an Absolute.
E-36 No man has a right to climb into the pulpit to preach the Gospel unless himself has treaded on those sacred sands, where no agnostic or unbeliever can ever explain away the supernatural of God. Jesus would not let His disciples preach. No matter how well they knowed Him, they must go to the city of Jerusalem and there wait till they was endued with power from on high. They must have that experience.
E-37 Moses, knowing that he was a prophet, knowed he'd been raised up for this purpose, but without that personal contact, that Absolute, something that proved to him that when he went down there he was going to have deliverance for these people... He was never the same. He went down there because he had the Absolute, and he did just exactly what God told him to do. There was no fear in his heart when he throwed down the serpents, or, the rods and they turned to a serpent. And the carnal impersonators come up with their type of ministry and throwed down, and done the same thing Moses had done, just exactly what God told him to do... There's nothing for him to do but stand still and see the glory of God. Then we find out that God taken his serpent and eat up the rest of them. That's the way it's done. He was positive that the God that could tell him to do this, could take care of him in the bad situation.
E-38 Can't we tonight, upon the basis of that young man giving his heart to Christ, stand upon this absolute, that God can make the impossible to be possible? He can change the hearts of judges. Why do we skip so frantically about other things? Let's take God first. Bring it back to the promise. God promised it if--that--that He would do it.
So remember, Moses was always a different person because he took God's Word and believed It. And he had a promise vindicated to him. How many could we call? We don't have time.
E-39 In writing notes today, I was writing here of Daniel, how that it was... What it was, it was a capital punishment for him to pray to--to any other god. But he had been in connection with God and he knowed that God was able to take care of him.
The Hebrew children, they'd be throwed into a fiery furnace and would be burned with heat seven times hotter than the furnace had ever be het. That... Hebrew children believed God. They said, "Our God is able to deliver us from this furnace." Why? They had had an Absolute. They had the Word of God. And the God that could deliver them Hebrew children from the death cell of a fiery furnace, how much more can He deliver this little Jewish boy out here that's laying yonder in a death cell? How much more is He... And He's still the same Jehovah God that He always was.
We, like apostle Paul, can realize that same God lives today: yesterday, today, and forever the same. Then Christians can hold to God's unchanging hand and change the whole situation. Prayer changes things. That's what we want to do.
E-40 How can we say about Joshua? How's he going to cross the Jordan? Seems like God was a strange military man, right in the month of April when the waters was up like that. But He said to Joshua, "Take the ark and go forward." That's all he had to do, and God moved back the Jordan and made dry grounds, and they walked across and was delivered. How it was... No wonder Joshua said, "For me and my house, we'll serve the Lord."
How David, that great patriarch... How we'd like to speak about him. We haven't time. But, in many times, as we heard someone speaking a few moments ago about David and his sin... But when all of it was forgiven, when he was going to battle we call it in the world, "The chips were down." And the opposition was great. And David laid there under the tree and sweated it out until he heard the sound going through the mulberry bushes. Then it was different. David rose and went on, because he had an absolute, that he knew that was God going on before him.
Can't we pray a prayer of faith that'll send God on to that parole board down there? Sure we can. We believe that we can if we hold to that absolute.
E-41 How Abraham called things that were not as though they were because he had an absolute promise from God that God was going to give him his--give him a child by Sarah. And when she was a hundred years old--or he was, and she was ninety, he still didn't stagger at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strong, giving praise to God. And we claim to be Abraham's children, when Abraham...
When we've had the Bible wrote since the days of Abraham, and all the witnesses that we've had behind, that Jehovah keeps His Word--that Christ is the Son of God. He's a Mediator between man and God. And there's no other mediator besides Him, and promising "If you ask the Father anything in My Name, it'll be granted..." And we claim to be the children of Abraham, when Abraham called things that were as though they were not, because he believed God. Absolutely. I believe it with all my heart.
E-42 Paul was... Christ-centered life was his absolute; it tied him. Christ was the Absolute of the resurrection, as we read here. He said, "God swore by an oath to David that He would not leave His soul in hell." A oath is the end of all strife. And He swore that He would not leave His soul in hell but would raise Him up. And therefore, He trusted God and was crucified, died, rose again, and ascended into heaven because He believed God.
How much more, as He setting the example, can we take the absolute? If Christ could take it upon that one promise there, how much more can we take it with thousands of promises? And with the Blood of Jesus Christ there to cleanse our way and bring us across that great chasm of sin that separated us of unbelief from God and bring us right into His Presence to talk to Him, how much more could it be?
E-43 Yes, we've got to have an absolute. I'm thinking of one right now, as in closing, would be George Washington. When America was young and we were fighting for life, the life of this great nation that we have, George Washington was a Christian. He was a believer. And down at Valley Forge, I'm told that the American soldiers only had--about one-third of them had on shoes, and the winter was cold and the zero weather, and the river frozen and gorging over, and the British on the other side, and the life of this little nation was at hand.
What did he do? He was a Christian. He goes out in the nighttime and kneels down in the snow, and prays until he was wet with snow water up around his waistline. And he stayed there and prayed until he got the absolute, the answer from God, that God was going to give him the victory. And the next day at Valley Forge was nothing to him; he crossed the Delaware, pushed through the ice with half dressed soldiers half froze and their bare feet on the ground in the snow. And he took it when three rifle bullets went through his coat. Why? He was trusting in the absolute of an answered prayer. Amen. The very backgrounds of our nation based upon such a thing.
E-44 What's the matter with people today who claim to be Christians? Why are we disturbed in an hour like this? Let's not be disturbed. Let's be soldiers. Yes, sir. He prayed until he got that answer. Then no clouded river, no bare-feet soldiers, regardless of the circumstance, they could take it because God had said so. A bullet couldn't even kill him from an enemy's rifle. Certainly. Why? He'd had a prayer meeting. He got the answer.
E-45 How well it was one night when apostle Peter was in the jail and they were going to kill him the next morning. He was going to die under capital punishment, as this little Jew's going to do now. But what did they do? They did the same thing that we here in Houston are trying to do. They formed a prayer meeting at John Mark's house. While they were praying, the Angel of the Lord went to the prison, and opened up the prison bars, and opened the gates and beyond that, and led Peter out, and come right down to the prayer meeting. I believe tonight that that same God lives. If He isn't the same God then there's something wrong. Certainly. What was it done? By a prayer meeting, by faithful Christians who believed, and believed that God would deliver their brother from capital punishment. Them were Christians who stayed all night and laid upon their faces and cried out and prayed.
E-46 As I heard one of the ministers awhile ago saying he was going to cry out all night long... The trouble of it is today, people let down. They get tired, sleepy. They can't even set through a ten-minute service hardly. Well, it--it's something wrong. If you love God, well--well, we should be busy. It--it should be our--our hopes, our desires; it should be everything that's in us should be in the love of Christ. Amen. We set so slothful. We set so unconcerned when the world's dying under our feet. That's right. Men's lives going out without God, and we set so--so unconcerned about it. As long as we belong to the church, that's all we think that makes a difference.
E-47 I was talking about the coming of Christ a few weeks ago in a certain church. And afterwards there's a--someone met me in the back of the church and said, "Brother Branham, you scare people to death."
I said, "Why'd I do that?"
He said, "Well, you talking about the coming of Christ. I don't want to hear such things as that. I got a little boy here I got to raise. I got a girl in school."
"Why," I said, "the coming of Christ is the most glorious thing I can think of." Certainly.
See, the Bible said, "All those who love His appearing..." Oh, my, for a day that when this old mortal will take on immortality, and this--this pest-house that I live in will be changed in a moment, in a twinkling of an eye, and a body like His own glorious body, it should be the heart's desire of the church. It should be every man and woman on fire, preaching in the streets and everywhere else, trying to get souls saved. Certainly.
E-48 I'm wondering if we've really tied to that absolute that we claim to. Are we looking at the right morning star? If we're just trusting in our church and our denomination, our affiliation... As the world changes, it changes with that, round and around. But there's one star that never change; there's one thing that can never change; that's God. God cannot change; His Word cannot change; His Bible cannot change. And if a man is borned of the Spirit of God with Christ in him, it punctuates every promise with an "amen," that it's right. Certainly.
E-49 Oh sure, a prayer meeting is what we need. We must be Christians. All Christians must use this same Absolute, the Word of God. God's Word is the Christian's stay. Jesus said in His Word, "If ye abide in Me, My Words abide in you, then you can ask what you will and it'll be done for you." Think of it. What more of an absolute would you want? What could you trust more in than something like that? "If ye abide in Me, My Words abide in you, then ask what you will."
Need to ask for God to work upon the heart of that judge or that parole board, and get that little fellow out of that death cell. If we ask it with faith, believing, in these prayer meetings, we'll get it. That's... I just believe God like that.
E-50 I'm... My faith that I have in God, that's why I'm here tonight. That's why I canceled out something else and got in here. And I got to drive hundreds of miles tonight back to Tucson, Arizona, because I come to put my faith with yours. That's a man; it's a soul laying yonder; it's someone in need. And we Christians have got to wake up to a reality to real genuine faith. Tie it to the Word of God and plead that promise. Yes, sir. Oh, my. "If ye abide in Me and My Word in you, ask what you want." And then again, "If the people that's called by My name shall assemble themselves together and pray, then I'll hear from heaven." Prayer meeting, that's it.
E-51 I believe in talking to attorneys and talking to lawyers, or judges, or parole boards, or whatevermore. Now, that's all right. But, brother, if your hope isn't tied to something than just the carnal man of mind, mind of man, rather, you'll sure be sadly disappointed. But if you can tie your faith into such a place that you know, and stay there and pray until God answers back, and you know you've got it in your heart, something's going to happen.
I've seen the dead raised from the funeral home; I've seen the--the blind eyes come open, the deaf ears unstopped. I've seen cancer-ridden cases of sarcomas-cancer, leprosy, healed by the power of the almighty God, because they had faith to believe that that God Who made the promise would be able to keep His promise. That's real genuine faith like Abraham had.
E-52 Tie to there, stay there and pray, not just get down and "God, deliver the poor little fellow and send him home." We'd all like that. But let's stay there until something happens. Oh, when something happens, then that assurance could fall amongst this little handful of people setting in this auditorium here tonight, could fall among us right here, enough faith and power of God... If we could pray through till we strike that home-line, till that Absolute comes down--that same Pillar of Fire that was taken here in Houston by Ted Kipperman's camera twelve years ago...
He's here tonight, just as great as He was then, to deliver that boy if we'll just believe it, because He's the same yesterday, today, and forever. I believe it with all my heart. That's why I'm here to offer my prayer with you all that God will spare their life. Then if you could pray through until you've got a answer back, got the assurance back, like Washington had, like John Mark had, like Daniel had, like Moses had, till you've got an absolute, something that you know that you can anchor to... "Then upon this absolute I'll build My church,"... and all the courts in the land cannot resist that. That's right.
E-53 Upon that... The very God that could take a little hook-nosed Jew like Paul, angry and going down there to put all the Christians to death under capital punishment, and could change him and make him a lovely Christian, that same God lives tonight, can change law to grace anytime that He takes a notion to do it. Hallelujah. Going to call me a holy-roller anyhow, so I might as well get started into it right now. I believe that God. Amen. Yes, sir.
E-54 Then Mark 11:22, when you prayed through He said, "Verily, verily, I say unto you, have faith in God. I say unto you if you say to this mountain, 'Be moved'..." When that absolute is come to you, when you're anointed with that Spirit that comes beyond all scientific control out yonder... Before there was an atom or a molecule, that One that spoke everything into existence... And when your soul is anchored to that, there's nothing can stop it. That's right. "Say to this mountain, 'Be moved,' and don't doubt in your heart, but believe that what you've said will come to pass, you can have what you've said." If that ain't an absolute to hold to... Certainly it is. That's right, an absolute.
E-55 Now a nation has a absolute; your home life has absolute, everywhere. If it's ever going to achieve anything, it's got to have an absolute. We appreciate this attorney. We appreciate, oh, all the other men--this fine chaplain here from California... And what a marvelous message. And--and our brother who tried to take the money and everything, to try to help this poor woman and--and with her children to deliver them. That's all fine, and we appreciate that, and I'm for it.
But there's one thing beyond that, friends, when we're closing this meeting tonight. We must tie it to an absolute, a prayer meeting before God that'll send the deliverance from the same Jehovah God. He's just as much God tonight as He was then. Hallelujah. Do you believe it? Let's stand up to our feet then, and tonight form a prayer meeting in here until an absolute takes place. Raise up our hands before God; pray till you strike home, until an absolute falls into your heart.
E-56 Lord God, send your Holy Spirit down and send, and free those children yonder, Lord. They're setting in the regions of the shadows of death. Something's fixing to happen, Lord, and we pray that these prayer meetings will strike fire. I believe You, Lord. I'm accepting it and I believe that you'll deliver those children. Grant it, Almighty God. We, Your church, ask it through Jesus Christ. Amen.
